Strobist on location

A little while ago I did the fillesfolles.be shoot but one of the girls couldn’t make it that day so yesterday we made up for that. A couple of other girls where present for the 2nd time as well, either they had a lot of fun last time or they hated their my pictures … I’m not sure 😉

No big conference rooms in the ‘SV Zulte Waregem stadion’ this time but a not so modest cool house. Her dad’s office featured these very wicked blue frosted glass panels and those are the times it’s really nice to be packing light.

I quickly set-up a vivitar 285 behind the glass, and one loaned (thank you nico) softbox to camera right up high. The result is everything I imagined it would be when I first saw the room and started thinking about how to set-up. This was the first time using a softbox and I have to say it has some advantages over umbrella’s so maybe I’ll do a quick little post about that later this week.

New site

I finally made up my mind about the new layout and from the beginning of next week http://tomleuntjensphotography.com will serve as my new splash page between the new site , blog & flickr stream.

So everybody subscribed to this blog I hope the http://tomleuntjensphotography.wordpress.com/feed is in your bookmarks.

The galleries on the site still need to be resized to proper dimensions so the loading times could be a bit tricky for now. I also still need to make up my mind on what galleries to include and what pictures…
But other than that, I’m curious to find out what my readers “ahum” think 😉

Trash the dress. Looking for candidates !

Trash the dress refers to photographs that contrasts elegant clothing with an environment in which it is completely out of place. It is generally shot in the style of glossy beauty and glamour photography.

A model often wears a ball gown, prom dress or wedding dress, and may effectively ruin the dress in the process by getting it wet, dirty or in extreme circumstances tearing or destroying the garment.

It may also be done as an additional shoot after the wedding, almost as a declaration that the wedding is done and the dress will not be used again. It is seen as an alternative to storing the dress away, never to be seen again.

While the initial reaction might be “why do I want to ruin my dress” , just think of what you will do with your dress after the wedding …. nothing … it will probably be there hanging in your closet. This is your opportunity to have some great & unique pictures & memories.  (and the shooting will be tons of fun)
So as the title of this post pointed out … I’m looking for candidates. You don’t have to be newly weds, if your dress still fits and you want to (sort of) renew your wedding vows and have a fun day or even if your not married and want do something like this, please contact me. And as this is a chance to add to my portfolio, the first  couples to react will be TFCD based .
If you are still not convinced about the concept, take a look at these videos and I know you will be !

If other (non pro) photographers are reading this and want to do something similar for their portfolio, we could share gear & help eachother carrying & setting-up. (But do supply a bride while your at it)
