Bent by Ake Vandervelden Photography

Ake is a friend and colleague and I couldn’t be more thankful that she could find time for our little family. The (new) dad in me is very proud to be able to show these pictures to you.

Me & Wenti have always been a big fan of the work of Ake Vandervelden and our appreciation only grew after seeing her “in action” and seeing the results. What struck us with Ake is her warm, friendly & calm approach when taking pictures and how patient she is with little people. Sure Bent still likes his nap but Ake always assured that he was totally relaxed (and warm). So if you haven’t checked out her work yet, be sure to do so and meanwhile I’ll let you enjoy her pictures of our little man.

A lot of people have asked me why I would want/need a photographer to come and take pictures of our son. And there are a couple of reasons. First, I’m a strong believer in specialization, a photographer can’t be good at everything. I certainly know my weak points and I definitely recognize Ake her strong points. And even if I probably would be able to pull of a good enough job (and I’ll be taking thousands of pictures of Bent myself in the future) there are more important reasons why we have asked Ake: it’s not possible (or at least not very easy) to have pictures of the three of us and then there is the element of surprise. I like to compare it with going out to dinner Vs cooking yourself a meal. If I would take pictures of Bent, review them on the back of my LCD, I’ll process them in Lightroom, and after that, the element of surprise would be gone for me. And boy let me tell you, when Ake her email with the first pictures arrived me & Wenti were excited like kids in toy-store! And I just wouldn’t have had that moment without Ake.

Ake, we can’t say it enough: thank you!
