Portrait light setups

After reading an article on Strobist I’ve been trying to match this photo by Peter Yang of Admiral Fallon for Esquire magazine.

Major Tom Major Tom II

Gobo’d a portion of my DIY shoebox softbox. I don’t have a boom stand so I had to use a normal stand and squeeze my lens in at the side. The light was positioned close and up. Seeing the image back now I should have gobo’d another portion of the topside so there was less light falling on his forehead. Peter yang had 15 minutes for his set up … I had less than 5. Seems like Major Tom had less patience than the Admiral. But thanks for being a good sport about it 🙂

having some more fun and experimenting with positioning the light to Tom’s left.
